Area Description

Nisswa is part of the Brainerd lakes region, which is adorned with pristine lakes, world championship golf courses, year around fishing (open water and frozen). We are in the central portion of Minnesota, conveniently located 2 1/2 hours from Duluth, Fargo, Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Nisswa is a resort community, offering year around tourism. We have a strong faith community, vibrant downtown shopping district with 60 quaint retail and restaurant shops. There are 3 medical facilities located with a 25 mile radius. Many people from the Minneapolis area have a summer/seasonal home in our area. We are surrounded by over 400 lakes within a 20 mile radius.

Our community is located on the Paul Bunyan State Bike Trail, a 120 mile paved rail-to-trail bike and snowmobile trail that spans from Crow Wing State Park to Bemidji State Park. Roads, government, economics are all very stable in this region. Our motto is "Nisswa, a great place to live, work, and play".

    Bike/walk/rollerblade/snowmobile the Paul Bunyan State Trail; golfing is one of our top attractions (world class golf). Fishing is a year around activity; open water 7 months, frozen water for 4-5 months. We have remarkable public parks and beaches, ample capacity for growth without losing our small town feel. You can ski, snowmobile, ice skate, fish in the winter. You can swim, fish, boat, kayak, paddle board, bike in the spring-summer-fall.
