Kaufman was declared a Certified Retirement Community in 2010 and boasts the best of both worlds, Progress and Tradition. Situated 25 minutes from downtown Dallas, residents enjoy the comforts of a rural community with the conveniences of big city living just a short drive away. Kaufman is a very friendly community that has a stellar school system, active church communities and lots of local flavor. Kaufman has a good mix of local, regional & national retailers and restaurants, some featured on our historic town square.

   As Kaufman is a short distance away from Dallas, fine dining, professional sports, art, music, and the theater are all close at hand. There are also community theatres in Terrell and Ennis, both of which are within a 30-minute drive. Re: Walking paths and parks, the City of Kaufman is working to upgrade the park properties in Kaufman, including adding an Inclusive playground to City Lakes Park, and is working towards a walking/running path circling the city, parts of which are already in place.

Cultural Activities


The local Dance Studio offers The Nutcracker every December. In nearby Terrell (12 miles away) an E! Terrell Series is offered every year at the Performing Arts Center, featuring several live music acts throughout the year. As Kaufman is a short distance away from Dallas, fine dining, professional sports, art, music and the theater are all close at hand.

Public transportation


STAR Transit offers a scheduled or on-demand ride service in Kaufman County. THey can also connect riders to the DART System that operates in Dallas County.

Texas Health Kaufman is a full-service Hospital. It is part of the Texas Health Resources system.
