Recreational opportunites abound with four golf courses, State, Metro-Parks, County and Township parks.

The Clarkston area is known nationally as the home of DTE Energy Music Theatre, one of the most successful outdoor music venues in the country. Clarkston is also known for two restaurants featured on Food Network's Diners Dive-ins and Drives: The Clarkston Union and Union Woodshop.
With easy access to I-75 theaters, Michigan's larest indoor outlet mall, Costco, Sams and more are just 5-10 minutes away. Three major casinos located in Detroit are just 1 hour away.

    The Clarkston area offers many recreational and entertainment options. Golf courses, many lakes, running paths, nearby State and County parks offer four seasons of activities.

DTE Energy Music Theater in the Clarkston area and Palace Sports and Entertainment, Meadowbrook Festival and Theatre offer international headliners, sporting events, comedians, food and wine events and more.

Clarkston Area has several home town festivals throughout the year including Taste of Clarkston, Six weeks of Free Concerts in Depot Park, Art shows, parades, ghost walks, barn tours, a backroads 1/2 marathon and many 5K and 10K races.

Clarkston Village Players and Depot Street Arts, along with the Waterford Arts Council (located in Clarkston) provide ongoing cultural events, plays, guest speakers, children's activities and more.
The historic village of Clarkston has a very walkable two block vibrant downtown with unique boutiques and eateries.

For those pursuing continuing education, Clarkston is just a few minutes from the University of Michigan Flint campus, Oakland University, Oakland Community College, Lawrence Tech, Baker College, Walsh College and Wayne State University.

A seasonal farmer's market and community garden offer even apartment dwellers opportunities to grow or purchase locally grown sustainable organic foods.

Cultural Activities


Entertainment opportunities are rich in the Clarkston area. From Aerosmith to Tony Bennett, Adele to ZZ Top, DTE Energy Music Theatre and Palace of Auburn Hills offer world class concert schedules.

On a smaller scale the Chamber's free concerts in Depot Park offer six weeks of a variety of music for residents to enjoy. Big Band, Top 40, 60's and 70's, Motown, Polka, Caribbean steel drums, folk, blues, jass and root music have people of all ages dancing in Depot Park on Friday nights.

Shuttle buses to the Detroit Institute of Arts, nearby casinos and the Flint Museum of Art are quick and easy ways to enjoy special exhibits and permanent collections.

Public transportation


Seniors can ride free (or for nominal charge) to shopping, work, events, doctor appointments though the Independence Township Senior Shuttle service.

Medical Facilities


Several well known hospitals are within 30 minutes of the Clarkston area including: Beaumont, POH, St. Joseph Mercy, Doctor's Hospital and Genisis Regional Hospital. Plans are currently in the approval process for a 200 bed hospital to be built by McLaren in our area.
Several specialty medical services are already available in the area, including cancer treatment centers.

Summer is warm and perfect for swimming, boating, picnicing and hiking. Autumn brings a full range of brilliently colored leaves and cooler temperatures. Winter may make some brief appearances in November (or even October) but begins in earnest around the Christmas holidays. Snowfall can range from a dusting to a few inches at a time. Snow stays on the ground through March when spring begins to bubble forward. Crocuses and daffodils herald the return of balmy weather.
