Area Description

Islamorada is known as the "Sportfishing Capital of the World", and we also host a larger fishing fleet per square mile than anywhere else in the world. This perfect retirement destination offers something to do in, under, above or near the water 24 hours a day. The aqua blue waters surrounding our village of islands provide fantastic views from every bridge and waterfront resort, restaurant and home.

One highway connect several islands via bridges, making us a Village of Islands.
One side of our highway is the Ocean Side and one side is the Florida Bay. Beautiful sunsets and lots of wonderful restaurants are two of our claims to fame in addition to snorkeling, fishing (we are the Sportsfishing Capital of the World) We also have a big beautiful park called Founders Park where residents can go to the beach free of charge or use the olympic pool (for a fee) or use the dog park, walking trails, basketball courts etc. Kids in Islamorada are very lucky to be able to play on their soccer and baseball teams at Founders Park, too. At Founders Park is the Amphitheater, too, where concerts are held many times throughout the year. People are friendly in Islamorada and the air is clean and breezy. The stars shine brighter here, too.

We don't have a "mall" we have shoppes and boutiques and a Winn Dixie, a hospital, a private Christian School and two K-8 public schools and a community college.
