Lake Hartwell Country, the three county region surrounding Lake Hartwell in South Carolina, includes the cities and towns of Clemson, Central, Pickens. Liberty, Easley, Anderson, Belton, Honea Path, Seneca, Walhalla, & Westminster. The area is nestled in the foothills of the SC Blue Ridge Mountains and boasts big-water lakes Hartwell, Keowee & Jocassee. The area is home to the highest point in South Carolina, Sassafras Mountain, the state's deepest lake, Lake Jocassee, and the Southeast's first Wild and Scenic River, the Chattooga.

   Enjoy fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, camping, OR vibrant cities and towns with night life for all ages. Spend a few days hiking, bicycling, or driving through the Blue Ridge mountains. Zip lining along the Chattoga Ridge near the Chattoga River offers a totally unique view of the region. Visit pick-your-own berry and apple farms or explore agriculture in a hands-on museum at the SC Agricultural Museum in Pendleton. SC Department of Natural Resources lands offer hunting opportunities and dozens of lake access points await visitors who want to explore by boat, kayak or canoe. After hours, downtowns like Clemson and Anderson offer vibrant night life. Several genealogy libraries house information on those who lived here in times gone by. Walking tours are available by appointment.

Cultural Activities





Small town theaters, some of which rival Broadway, wait to be discovered. For a special treat plan ahead to visit Mill Town Playhouse or one of many others in the region. Clemson University offers lecture series, concerts, and dance performances, which are open to the public. Easley, Seneca, Pendleton, and Piedmont offer theatre performances, which are listed on our calendar of events.

Public transportation




The Clemson Area Transit (CAT Bus) is a FREE public transit system in the Clemson, Pendleton, Central, Seneca areas. Seneca's busses are Electric, built by Proterra of Greenville SC, providing a tryly green transportation system.

Medical Facilities


Two large hospitals operate several facilities across the region: Greenville Health Systems and St. Francis Hospital System. Both offer state-of-the art care.
