Historic Lincoln, NM is part of our County which was where the Lincoln County wars took place and Billy the Kid achieved notoriety. Capitan, NM is home of Smokey Bear, the living symbol of the Forest Service's wildfire prevention campaign.
With a large abundance of Artists and Art Galleries we have become one of the Art Meccas in New Mexico.

We are surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest which provides great opportunities for the Outdoor Enthusiasts such as hiking, camping and mountain biking.
We are home to Ruidoso Downs Racetrack & Casino where the All American Futurity, the world's richest Quarter Horse race is held. There are two additional casinos on the nearby Mescalero Apache reservation.
In the winter we attract skiers to Ski Apache ski area New Mexico's premier ski and snowboard resort which has 10 lifts & 55 runs.

The Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts opened in October of 1997, creating a year-round venue for world-class performances in theater, music and dance. An aristocrat among theaters, the $22-million structure is splendid and elegant, yet intimate and welcoming. At the heart of the Spencer, in its 514-seat hall, you’ll encounter a powerful experience of the performing arts — outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and artistry of the highest caliber.
The Peter Hurd Art Gallery, La Rinconada is home to the spectacular works of the Hurd Family: Peter, Henriette Wyeth, and their son Michael. The gallery also features selections of works by renowned artists N.C. and Andrew Wyeth.
Each year, during the second full weekend in October, Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico plays host to the nation's finest cowboy festival with old west storytellers, noted historians, poets, musicians (including the world famous Texas Playboys), chuckwagon cooks and competitions, chuckwagon cook-offs, western artists and craftsmen for three days of events, cowboy competitions, horse demonstrations, western swing dancing, kids rodeo and educational activities. In 1996, the symposium was selected as the Best Cowboy Cultural Event by the National Cowboy Symposium Association. In addition, the LCCS has been named one of North America's top 100 events by the American Bus Association.
