Area Description

Meigs County-Decatur is located 50 miles from Knoxville and 50 miles from Chattanooga. The main highway is State Highway 58 going North to South and Interstate 75 is accessed by State Highway 30 which runs East to West. Meigs County is a small county population wise having approximately 7,000 residents. Decatur is the county seat and the Courthouse is located right in the middle of the little town. There is only one other town in Meigs County and it is Ten Mile. We are right on Watts Bar Lake, the Hiwassee River and the Tennessee River. The Ten Mile area is right on Watts Bar Lake and is a lovely area. The county is long and narrow being 5 miles wide and 50 miles long. The county in the South is split by the Hiwassee River and it is also a beautiful water sport area. The property tax rate is considered very low for the area. There are 4 schools in Meigs County. 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school and one high school. There are approximately 6 industrial businesses in the area.
