Shenandoah County is home to six historic towns all located like a string of pearls along U.S. Route 11, a scenic Virginia Byway. It offers hospitality, beautiful Mountain views, and the best of Main Street America. You'll find unique shops and diverse dining options in Strasburg, Toms Brook, Woodstock, Edinburg, Mount Jackson and New Market.
Stately National Forest land covers 26% of the county and the valley floor is accentuated by the North Fork of the Shenandoah River which meanders gracefully through the county, creating the Seven Bends of the Shenandoah River.
Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley in the Northwestern portion of Virginia, Shenandoah County is an outdoor lover’s paradise! It is nestled between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountains and yet it is easily accessible via I-66 and I-81. The county is located just 80 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. and 150 northwest of Richmond, VA.

With so much to offer outdoors, we invite everyone to come out and play and get to know Shenandoah County. Hike the 178 miles of trails that wind through the George Washington National Forest, and explore over 30 miles of streams that wander down the mountains to join the Shenandoah River in the valley below. There is great skiing, golfing, fishing, biking, kayaking, tubing, hiking, climbing, wandering, meandering and strolling. Enough to satisfy everyone's outdoor interests! There are also beautiful shops, galleries, Restaurants and Cafes to suit every taste in every town along the Old Valley Pike.

Shenandoah County is home to a Diverse Arts community, and it's no wonder with its rolling river, and beautiful mountains, Shenandoah County offers a feast for the senses. Many Artists and Artisans call it home and find inspiration in our natural beauty and cultural tradition of fine craft.
There is also a rich tradition of Theater with two live Theater Houses and a great schedule of performances for the stage year round.
Many of the towns offer free live performances of local bands in their town parks and Shenandoah County is also home to the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival which offers a summer season of great national and regional acts in a beautiful intimate, outdoor venue.
With all of the rich history in our community, there are museums, historic buildings and battlefields that tell the story of the Revolution and the Civil War as well as stories of the lives of early farm settlers.

Shenandoah Memorial Hospital (SMH) is a licensed 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Woodstock, Virginia that was founded in 1951.
The hospital joined Valley Health in 2002, which allowed for expansion of resources and services, including the new Shenandoah Surgery Center that opened in 2007 and extensive renovation projects on Surgical Services and Diagnostic Center were completed in 2010 and 2012 respectively. A new 45,000-square foot Emergency Department and medical building opened in June 2016.
Shenandoah Memorial Hospital is proud to offer a variety of diagnostic, medical and surgical services, as well as around-the-clock emergency care to the more than 42,000 community members in Shenandoah County and surrounding areas. Thanks to Valley Health’s strong network of providers, residents have access to an array of specialty services, including cardiology, neurosurgery consultations and orthopedics without having to leave the area.

Shenandoah County offers the best of all four seasons. Warm and sunny in the summer, but always breezy and slightly cooler than the cities to the East. Fall is a spectacular show of leaves that people come from all over the globe to witness. In the wintertime, we get plenty of chill to satisfy the snow enthusiasts and make our Ski Resort a great destination, and springtime offers a beautiful show of blossoming trees and colorful flowers to rival our fall show of leaves.
