Zanesville Muskingum County is comprised of a thriving central city, well-groomed residential areas, rural rolling hills and picturesque villages. It is a charming, historic community filled with many treasures. Muskingum University, Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State are the three universities that call Muskingum County home.

Zanesville is also home to Weasel Boy Brewing Company, which won a gold medal from the Great American Beer Festival in 2012. One of our most popular attractions is The Wilds, one of the world’s largest and most innovative conservation centers in the world which spans 10,000 acres. There are over 10 museums in Muskingum County, all of which have a different part of our history to offer. The world famous Y Bridge is located in downtown Zanesville and can be seen from Putnam Hill Park. The Y Bridge spans the confluence of both the Muskingum and Licking Rivers.

   Muskingum County is rich in opportunities for sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts who come from far and wide to enjoy hunting, fishing, boating and athletics. Recreational sports are some of the community’s favorite leisure time activities. Muskingum County is home to several state and city parks and athletic facilities that offer recreation for the entire family.

Many visitors flock to Muskingum County to golf at our wonderful courses, some which are nationally known. The beautiful landscape of Muskingum County make for a scenic ride on our recreational and mountain bike trails. Whether you prefer a leisurely ride or you are looking for a more intense mountain bike ride, our trails will meet your needs.

When you are shopping in Muskingum County you will also find a variety of options to suit all tastes. If you are looking for special gifts or specific items such as candles, collectibles, crafts or clothing, you will find them here.

There is also a wide variety of antiques and pottery shops throughout the county.

The Lorena Sternwheeler is a 104 foot long, 17 foot wide, 59 ton boat that can carry 75 passengers. She is available for public rides, dinner and lunch cruises, and twilight cruises along the Muskingum River. The Lorena can also be booked for private charters for groups and school trips.


Cultural Activities


Zanesville is home to a growing Artist Colony, a community of living and working artists whose studios are open to the public and available as a cultural resource. Every first Friday of each month, downtown studios are open for an evening of art from 5 to 8 p.m. This event provides the opportunity to meet and converse with artists as they create original works of art.

Our Muskingum County Library System has 6 branches throughout the county. Many types of events, speakers, meet the authors, and lectures are held there throughout the year. Throughout the year, Muskingum County hosts live entertainment such as concerts, plays and musicals at Secrest Auditorium, The Renner Theatre and Zanesville Community Theater.

Public transportation


South East Area Transit (Z-Bus), our public transit bus, will take you almost anywhere you want to go in Zanesville and Cambridge. Bus Service is offered Monday-Friday with efficient schedules and pick-up points nearly every 30-60 minutes. Best of all, with a regular fixed-route fare of only $1.00, there’s no better way to stretch your budget. There are also taxi and car rental services in the area as well as a Greyhound Station. Greyhound buses run 7 days a week 4 times a day.

Medical Facilities


Genesis HealthCare System is an integrated health care delivery system based in Zanesville, Ohio. The system includes a not-for-profit hospital that operates at two Zanesville sites – Genesis-Bethesda and Genesis-Good Samaritan, an extensive network of more than 300 physicians and multiple outpatient care centers throughout the region. Genesis is the largest health care provider in its six-county region of southeastern Ohio, which includes Muskingum, Morgan, Perry, Coshocton, Noble and Guernsey counties. Genesis provides a higher level of service than what is typically found in a community of its size including open-heart surgery, trauma care, a Level II neonatal intermediate care unit, neurosurgery and comprehensive cancer services. This level of care has established Genesis as a primary referral center for much of the region.

It is the perfect time to explore our many walking trails and our gardens.
