Carroll County, Ohio is a rural county in East Central Ohio, with no four lane highways. The rolling country side is home to beautiful vistas that give you the feeling you are in the Appalachian Mountains. It is home to Atwood Lake Region which is a tourist destination with two marinas, a winery, a park with camping and beach and at least seven dining options ranging from ice cream stands to fine dining. Atwood Lake is known for its great sailing and fishing. The Leesville Lake area is home to six youth camps and is known for its Muskie fishing. Both lakes have low horsepower limits. The village of Carrollton is the county seat and is home to several museums, antique and collectible shopping and more. The economy has always been agricultural but recently has shale gas development also.

Carrollton is home to the McCook House Civil War Museum, an Ohio Historical Society Museum. It has multiple displays on the Civil War and the McCooks (Daniel McCook and his brother and their 14 sons all fought for the North during the war.) Bluebird Farm Susie's Museum of Childhood is a private collection of over 1500 dolls and toys that span three centuries. Carroll County Arts Center is the local outlet for more than 60 local artisans to sell their work.
