Things to Do, Recreation & Fitness


   Westerville is just minutes from everything Columbus has to offer, including Ohio State Buckeye, Columbus Crew and Blue Jacket sporting events. Westerville is located just southeast of Alum Creek State Park and Delaware State Park, popular locations for boating, fishing and camping.

Within the city limits, you'll find many parks and an extensive network of leisure trails. The Uptown District is a central hub for nightlife and special events, including 4th Fridays, community block parties held on the fourth Friday or each month, April through September, featuring street vendors, extending shopping hours, live entertainment and children's activities.

Summer brings outdoor concerts each Wednesday and Sunday and on rainy days, cinemas at Polaris and Easton are just minutes away.


Cultural Activities


Westerville has an active arts community, which celebrate various art forms with performances, gallery openings and displays. The Westerville Community Band and Westerville Symphony at Otterbein University host performances during the year and Otterbein students welcome the community at their theatre performances and concerts. Westerville also boasts an award-winning library and a rich Temperance History.

Public transportation


Westerville is 10 miles north of Columbus International Airport and has limited service through the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) buses. Rental car companies are nearby and several taxi companies service the area.

Medical Facilities


Westerville's Medical Mile is home to Mount Carmel St. Hann's Hospital, Ohio Health's Westerville Medical Campus and the many offices of general practitioners and specialists.


What Will The Climate And Weather Be Like If I Retire In Central Ohio?

For those of you that retire in Central Ohio, you will enjoy warm summers, a cool fall, a cold winter and a temperate spring!

Winter temperatures are cold with averages in the low 30's and highs in the upper 30's. Nights are cold with lows in the low 20's. Expect a lot of rainy days in the winter, great for a day of shopping in Central Ohio! Assume a few days of snow with some days having snow remaining on the ground.

If the weather in the spring is too cold for the outdoors, enjoy some indoor activities in Central Ohio such as a movie, a visit to a museum, dining, nightlife or some shopping. Spring temperatures are cool with averages in the low 50's and highs in the low 60's. Nights are cold with lows in the low 40's. Expect a lot of rainy days in the Spring, great for a day of shopping in Central Ohio!

Summertime in Central Ohio is a great time to enjoy your retirement with a day at the lake, an outdoor concert, a local festival or other outdoor activity! Summer temperatures are mild with averages in the low 70's and highs in the low 80's. Nights are cool with lows in the low 60's. Expect a few days above 90°. Humidity may feel "sticky" with muggy evenings. Expect some rainy days in the summer.

If you retire in Central Ohio, you can look forward to fall weather activities such as biking on a bike path, hiking, enjoying a walking path and more! Fall temperatures are cool with averages in the mid 50's and highs in the mid 60's. Nights are cold with lows in the mid 40's. Expect some rainy days in the fall.
