The epicenter of Charlottesville is the historic pedestrian Downtown Mall, which features dozens of shops and restaurants, many of which have outdoor patios. The outdoor enthusiast will love hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, kayaking on area rivers, and fishing in local streams. With a very temperate and moderate climate, Charlottesville & Albemarle County can be enjoyed just about any time of the year!

For the shoppers, a stroll down the historic pedestrian Downtown Mall will offer up dozens of local shops, many of which feature work made by local artisans. Outdoor enthusiasts will delight in ample cycling, hiking, fishing, running, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities. The gateway to the Shenandoah National Park is right in our backyard and can be accessed by just a short 30-minute drive from downtown Charlottesville. Music lovers will be thrilled by the number of music venues in the area, which are able to draw not only local favorites, but artists whose music is known around the country and around the world!

The arts scene is thriving in Charlottesville & Albemarle County. Several theaters feature plays & performances throughout the year. Charlottesville is also home to the Virginia Film Festival in November, which draws huge names in film from around the country. With the University of Virginia located in Charlottesville, there are ample opportunities for live music performances and lectures. The beautifully renovated historic Paramount Theater located on the Downtown Mall also offers arts lovers a huge variety of performances from which to choose! Also located on the Downtown Mall, you will find the Sprint Pavilion and the Jefferson Theater, with both offering numerous musical performances throughout the year.

Winters are cold, but major disruptive snow events are rather rare. Spring and fall are both beautiful times of year and visitors love to come in autumn to see the dazzling display of colors on the trees in Shenandoah National Park and the surrounding countryside.
