Beautiful beaches and a taste of California wine country are at your fingertips with oceanfront hotels and distinct restaurants.

Pismo Beach has been blessed with an abundance of wildlife. One of the most spectacular Monarch Butterfly Groves in the country is on our southern boundary. There is a bounty of water bound friends - Whales, Otters, Elephant Seals, etc. just offshore.

Recognized by scientists, conservationists, and the public as the finest, most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California, the Oceano Dunes on Pismo State Beach are a must see, and you can drive on the beach to see them, if you like. Our 8 miles of towering sand dunes are often used in movie and television shows. They are ideal for horseback riding, picnics, hiking, guided nature walks and camping.

For the adventurous, how about four wheel ATV riding on the dunes, or a biplane ride? Miles of bike lanes and bike trails in and through town and along the spectacular coast await you. You can surf and boogie-board year round near the pier. Pismo and Shell Beaches offer spectacular rocks, caves, cliffs, beaches and coves that are perfect for kayaks or stand up paddle-boards. Equipment, such as surfboards, boogie boards and wet suits, bicycles, sun buggies, etc., can be rented. Free beach wheelchairs are available.

Medical Facilities

Although Pismo Beach proper does not have its own hospital, there are three hospitals in San Luis Obispo County, with hundreds of beds available to serve residents. The Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center is the largest, providing emergency services, coronary care, in-patient surgery, and a blood bank. The French Hospital Medical Center is another major facility, offering nuclear medicine and an open heart surgery facility. Arroyo Grande Community Hospital is a full service, general, acute care, medical-surgical facility.
