Fairmont, the City of Lakes, is a community of 11,000 located in the heart of southern Minnesota. The community provides an array of recreation, educational, and health care services supporting a regional service area population of over 20,000 and is the county seat for Martin County. Centrally located along I-90 and Highway 15, the City is noted for its hospitality, friendly residents, unique specialty shops, and picturesque lakes, making Fairmont “Southern Minnesota’s best kept secret.”

The City’s five lakes provide a valuable community resource and afford residents and visitors alike with recreational areas for swimming, pleasure boating, water skiing, and fishing. Other attractions include the Fairmont Aquatic Park, a variety of public and private 18-hole golf courses and several historic venues for artistic endeavors and enrichment opportunities.

A full array of K-12 educational services are available from the public and private religious-based schools serving the area. The Southern Minnesota Educational Campus is a one-stop shop for post-secondary education providing an assortment of college courses and degree programs offered by public and private religious-based secondary institutions in the region.

   The city of Fairmont is woven around a chain of five beautiful lakes and offers a wide range of recreational opportunities throughout every season. Be sure to visit one of our amazing parks, take a step back in time with our legendary historical sites, go for a dip at the Fairmont Aquatic Park, enjoy dinner with a view at our lakeside dining establishments, or stick around for one of our cultural or sporting events. Our indoor mall and historic downtown district provide a relaxed and leisurely shopping environment.

Cultural Activities


The Red Rock Center for the Arts offers a wide variety of affordable entertainment for all ages. Enjoy a wide variety of musical concerts featuring big band, swing, jazz, cultural, strings, piano, and more. Our beautiful hardwood floors are perfect for ballroom dancing. Educational art and music classes for adults and children are offered at various times throughout the year.

The Fairmont Opera House hosts a number of musical performances and plays each year. Tickets for shows can be purchased online through their website and a calendar of their events is also available online.

The library hosts many programs for children and adults as well.

Public transportation


Several locally-owned taxi services are available. Martin County offers bus services throughout the county and through its Veterans Services Department, transportation is available to metropolitan areas.

If time is money, you can fly just about any size prop or corporate jet
aircraft into Fairmont’s Municipal Airport. Our airport is equipped with an
ILS system, 5,550 foot runway and 3,300 crosswind runway, 24-hour fuel
service, meeting space in the terminal and ground transportation.

Medical Facilities


Fairmont is part of the Mayo Health System. Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit worldwide leader in medical care, research, and education for people from all walks of life. Our community offers a number of other health care facilities, including the Dulcimer Medical Center and United Hospital District (UHD) primary care clinics, the Center for Specialty Care and a variety of chiropractic and dental care providers.
