Lake Havasu City is an oasis in the Mohave Desert and the American home of the London Bridge. The lake itself was formed by the construction of Parker Dam in the mid-1930's. The city was founded by Robert McCulloch who bought the London Bridge from the City of London, shipped it across the ocean block by block and reconstructed the antique, giving Lake Havasu City a lifetime brand. The city lies near the joining of Arizona, California and Nevada. With a beautiful desert climate, temperatures are moderate 9 months of the year and warm in the summer, beckoning winter visitors from colder climes between Oct-April and sun loving, watercraft oriented travelers from Southern California, Southern Nevada and from throughout the Southwest from Easter through the early fall.
The city's fulltime population of nearly 55,000 enjoy the feel of a small town in a small metropolitan area. There are several resorts on/near Lake Havasu and plenty of water to play on. Off-roading in the desert that surrounds the city's borders is also a popular past time. There are several elementary schools, one middle school and one public high school along with several public and private charter and parochial schools, all offering a higher than average level of education. The city is also fortunate to have the ASU @ Lake Havasu campus in the center of town, and a local branch of Mohave Community College offering outstanding higher education opportunities in many doctrines. Festivals, including a world class hot air balloon event, power boat racing, a winter street festival that attracts 35,000 each year, occur almost every weekend throughout the year. Lake Havasu City has something for everyone.
