   Monroe is part of the Project Road Share cycling routes connecting a series of biking trailheads throughout the county. We are happy to share our roads! In downtown, Childers Park is the perfect place for walking. The 17-acre passive park is next to the Monroe-Walton County Library and features walking paths and a dog park for our four-legged friends. Matthews Park has a public lake which is a great spot for fishing, and right outside the city the Hard Labor Creek Reservoir covers 1,370 acres. There are two golf courses in Monroe and lots of opportunities for getting fit in one of our local gyms. Public tennis courts can be found in Hammond Park. If you'd like to continue your personal education, the Monroe campus of Athens Tech is ready to assist you in reaching your learning goals. Walton County is also the Antiques Capital of Georgia with over 250,000 square feet of antique markets in Monroe alone. For even more opportunities to have unique experiences, the college town of Athens, Georgia is about a 30-minute drive away, or you can be in the heart of Atlanta in 45 minutes. You can really have it all living in Monroe! Small town community with access to culture and amenities that you'd expect in larger cities. Throughout the year, city sponsored events bring thousands of people to the historic downtown area to enjoy family, friends, and our unique local businesses. From May to October, the Monroe Farmers Market fills downtown with local produce and handmade goods from artisans. During the summer months, the First Friday Concert Series attracts huge crowds to the courthouse lawn for dancing and music through the night. Ice skating downtown is available the last week of January, and the Classic Memories Car Show happens every March when hundreds of classic cars line the streets of downtown for one of the largest car shows in the region. Walton County is also the Antiques Capital of Georgia with over 250,000 square feet of antique markets in Monroe alone. The Monroe Culture & Heritage Museum is the place to learn about the rich history of the town and get the latest information about upcoming events in the the Monroe Visitors Center which is in the lobby area of the museum.

We are within an hour drive to Atlanta-Hartsfield International Airport. Monroe is also home to the Monroe-Walton County Airport.
