Ottawa County, Oklahoma is in the far northeast corner of the state. The region is considered "green country" with beautiful scenery and agriculture. Miami is the hub of the region, and the famous Rt. 66 also serves as Miami's Main Street. The historic downtown district is home to quaint shops, restaurants and the Coleman Theatre Beautiful.
Nearby Grand Lake offers swimming recreation and fishing. Miami is home to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO). NEO is a two year school which is part of the OSU/A&M Board of Regents. It has a rich history in athletics, agriculture and scholastic achievement.
Ottawa County is home to nine (9) Native American Tribes. Tribal history and pride run deep in our area, and Tribal enterprises including 13 area casinos, are the largest area employers. Ottawa County offers a quieter and affordable lifestyle that is conveniently adjacent to larger cities and urban areas.

Public transportation is limited, but Miami is centrally located between Tulsa, Springfield and NW Arkansas airports. All are easily reached in about an hour.

Miami offers a 113 bed, full service hospital with cardiac, OB/GYN, surgery, radiology, urology, pediatrics, ER, urgent care, home health, hospice, rehab and more. There are several area gyms and wellness centers which offer many options of how to stay fit.

For those of you that retire in Northeast, you will enjoy warm summers, a cool fall, a cold winter and a temperate spring! Winter temperatures are cold with averages in the upper 30's and highs in the upper 40's. Nights are cold with lows in the mid 20's. Expect some rainy days in the winter. If the weather in the spring is too cold for the outdoors, enjoy some indoor activities in Northeast such as a movie, a visit to a museum, dining, nightlife or some shopping. Summertime in Northeast is a great time to enjoy your retirement with a day at the lake, an outdoor concert, a local festival or other outdoor activity! Summer temperatures are warm with averages in the upper 70's and highs in the upper 80's. Nights are mild with lows in the upper 60's. Expect a lot of days above 90°. Humidity may feel uncomfortable. Expect some rainy days in the summer. Fall temperatures are cool with averages in the upper 50's and highs in the low 70's. Nights are cold with lows in the upper 40's. Expect some rainy days in the fall.
