Retirement Living in Rapid City and Black Hills area - South Dakota
|
|
We are proud of our home-town hospitality, our western heritage and encourage you to find out for yourself what a great place this is to retire. Out of a campfire conversation in 1876 by a group of discouraged prospectors, the city of Rapid City was born. Named for spring-fed Rapid Creek, which flows through the city, Rapid City has a growing population of nearly 70,500 making it the second largest city in the state.
Rapid City is the center of a wide livestock and grazing area, which allows for the vibrant agriculture industry our state enjoys. As a state with low tax regulation and burden, Rapid City offers a number of business industries such as: hospitality and tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and hospital services. The Black Hills is headquarters to a number of utilities and medical centers, and is the home of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Ellsworth Air Force Base and the South Dakota National Guard Headquarters.
Tourism is Rapid City’s main industry. Each year hundreds of thousands of tourists pass through Rapid City on their way to the nearby beautiful Black Hills, the Badlands, Mount Rushmore (Shrine of Democracy) and the Crazy Horse Memorial. With the beautiful Black Hills as our city’s playground, we are certain you will enjoy the indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities available in and around our city.
We are very proud of our community. But don’t just take our word for it. Rapid City has received the following designations: “Best Small Place for Business and Careers” by Forbes in 2013. Outdoor Life named Rapid City the “Best Town” in 2010. The Tax Foundation’s 2014 edition of “The State Business Tax Climate Index” rated South Dakota as the number two state for favorable tax systems. In 2011 Rapid City was chosen as the “Most Patriotic City” by the ‘Best of the Road Rally’, hosted by Rand McNally and USA Today. South Dakota is ranked number two in the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index for 2014. CNBC ‘set it in stone’ when they named South Dakota the # 1 business state in 2013.
The Rapid City area embodies all the characteristics of an ideal community.
Includes Cities/Towns: Black Hawk, Buffalo Gap, Caputa, Custer, Ellsworth Afb, Hermosa, Hill City, Hot Springs, Keystone, New Underwood, Rapid City.
