There are an abundance of recreation activities and events in Sun City Center, including more than 140 holes of golf (Sun City Center is home to the internationally known Ben Sutton School of Golf).
The Sun City Center Area Chamber of Commerce presents outstanding events each year. For example, in the spring, the Chamber hosts its fabulous trade fair, followed by a spectacular business expo in the fall.
Sun City Center is also convenient to just about anywhere in Central Florida.
Tampa Bay—Sun City Center’s big city neighbor—is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Super Bowl champions in 2003), the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Lightning (winners of the Stanley Cup in 2004).
Tampa also offers a wealth of cultural activities including the Tampa Museum of Art, the Florida International Museum, the Henry B. Plant Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Salvador Dali Museum, Buckley Moss Museum and the Florida Aquarium. The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center features live music performances, and the Tampa Bay Symphony performs regularly.
The Tampa Electric Company Manatee/Tidal Flats Walk provides visitors with an opportunity to stroll along a boardwalk through the tidal flats, see wild manatees and learn more through the environmental education center. The 1,600-acre Little Manatee State Recreation Area is about four miles south of Sun City Center. Simmons County Park is also nearby.
Thoroughbred horses run at Florida Downs, January through March, and greyhound racing takes place at Tampa Greyhound Racing and Derby Lanes in St. Petersburg, January to June.
