We are in the foothills of NC. We have a historic area and a city area and a countryside area in our community. We are called the Triad area of North Carolina. We are between the mountains of Asheville (about 3 hours away and the beach which is about 4 hours away from us). We have lots of retirement communities scattered throughout different parts of the Triad area.

Things to Do, Recreation & Fitness

|
Belews Lake is popular for boating and fishing. There is hunting available, there are several major malls including Tanger Outlets in Mebane which is a 45 minute drive. Concord Mills is in Concord NC, a one hour drive.
Dixie Classic Fair Comes every year. Greensboro coliseum and Lawrence Joel Veteran's Memorial Coliseum host lots of different events and concerts indoors and out. The Dixie Classic fair is held here in Winston-Salem and there are many golf courses to enjoy.

Our region has bus stations in the major cities (Winston-Salem, Greensboro & High Point). Our major International Airport is Piedmont International airport in Greensboro NC. There are several rent a car locations in all areas of the triad. There is a train station in Greensboro and in High Point too. we have lots of different taxi services throughout the area.

We have Novant Health (Forysth Hospital) and we have Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center which is a learning hospital in Winston-Salem.

What Job or Volunteer Opportunities Does Winston-Salem Region Offer For Retirees?

Seniors can volunteer at one of two local hospitals (wake Forest Baptist Medical, Novant Health), we have a senior daycare, city/county recreation center. The Chamber of Commerce provides seniors with the opportunity to volunteer at the public schools.
