The rivers and lakes are exceptionally clean offering an abundance of water recreation, including canoeing, kayaking, swimming, boating, water skiing, fishing and relaxing boat rides. Some of the lakes even have restaurants located on them. Our Parks system offer additional opportunities to enjoy the lakes and rivers along with walking, running and biking trails, disc golf and a petting zoo. Each of our small communities has a festival or two throughout the summer months offering outdoor concerts, parades, vendor shows, car shows, carnival rides and a festival atmosphere. There are several art galleries and historical museums to enjoy too!

Downtown Three Rivers has a Carnegie Center for the Arts which holds exhibits and classes year round for all ages along with a beautifully restores historic theater offering a variety of live and film shows. There is also a historic museum called the Silliman House with displays and blacksmith demonstrations and the Historical Society also downtown Three Rivers offers a variety of exhibits. There are dance studios in Three Rivers and Sturgis and additional museums in other parts of the county too.

There are 2 hospitals in the county: Three Rivers Health and Sturgis Hospital. Both offer many services as well as off campus clinics. There are individual clinics avaialble as well.
What Will The Climate And Weather Be Like If I Retire In St. Joseph County, Michigan?
St. Joseph County does not experience natural disasters like many other parts of the country. It is a very rare occasion to experience something that would qualify. We have had a slight shaking with no damage that was declared an earthquake and tornadoes that will tear up trees every 10 years or so and an occasional flood with minimal damage but we experience all 4 seasons here with a low risk for natural disasters.
