Area Description

WE LIKE IT HERE!

Residents of Eastern Madera County are among the fortunate Americans who have found that life still can be lived on a human scale. One glance at the snow-capped Sierras, the pines, poppies, deer, foxes and beavers who share our lives tells you all you need to know about our quality of life. We enjoy real seasons, Yosemite next door and a rural life-style just 45 minutes from a major metropolitan area.

Yosemite, our location at the southern end of fabled Highway 49, the Gold Rush route, Bass Lake and North Fork's Scenic By-Way draws over 1-1/2 million tourists into Eastern Madera County each year. Our economy is increasingly diversified; the Chamber of Commerce membership has grown considerably in the last three years. Major computer software firms are located here plus Federal, State and County government employment is strong and retail businesses flourish with a second major shopping center just completed and a third one soon to begin.

Yet, we remain an affordable community, for employers and employees. Eastern Madera County is a progressive community in the best sense of the word. It's business sector works closely with local citizen groups to protect the quality of life while nourishing the area's economic health. An example of this is the Oakhurst River Parkway Project along the Fresno River, Oak Creek and China Creek. A 4-mile walking trail amid the natural beauty. The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce serves businesses and the communities in Eastern Madera County. We are conveniently located on Highway 41in Oakhurst. We are in the culturally rich Southern Sierras just moments from the south gate to Yosemite national forest. If you are interested in relocating your family or business to an affordable, safe, clean, and caring community.
