Around every corner here, there is a park or trail with areas for family picnics, biking, hiking, or horseback riding. When the snow flies, welcome to our winter wonderland. Head to our local ski resorts and toboggan runs, or hit the trails for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

Public transportation


Kalamazoo County is located in the heart of the Great Lakes region, midway between Chicago and Detroit. The Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport (AZO) is served by major airlines and offers worldwide connections to major hubs throughout the Midwest. Car rental agencies are located at the airport and throughout Kalamazoo.

The historic downtown transportation center has trains to and from major destinations like Chicago and Detroit. You also have convenient access to Greyhound and Indian Trails bus lines, and once you’ve arrived, efficient local public transportation is available from Metro Transit bus service, as well as limousine and taxi services.

Medical Facilities


Dr. W.E. Upjohn invention of the modern pharmaceutical pill in 1885 established Southwest Michigan’s excellence in health care. The region’s high standard of care is anchored by Ascension Borgess Hospital, Bronson Methodist Hospital and the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine, as well as satellite facilities and other excellent providers spread throughout the region.

Part of the Ascension group of hospitals, Ascension Borgess Hospital is a full-service teaching hospital with 24/7 emergency care, a Level II Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
Bronson Methodist Hospital, located in the heart of Kalamazoo, is also a full-service teaching hospital with 24/7 emergency care, offering a Level I Trauma Center and Children’s Hospital.
Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is a private medical school in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Established in 2012, WMed confers the Doctor of Medicine degree, as well as Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences degree and the Master of Science in Medical Engineering degree.
