About 15 miles north of Bay City (the country seat of Bay County) you will find Linwood and then a bit further north is Pinconning. Commonly referred to as "Northern Bay County" the area is also defined by the Pinconning Area School District. These communities offer beautiful natural resources, many different social activities, great restaurants, but most important... great people make the Pinconning and Linwood area a wonderful place to live, play, work and visit. Located on the beautiful Saginaw Bay, you’ll find a friendly atmosphere, trophy walleye, and famous Pinconning cheese!

Things to Do, Recreation & Fitness










   Located along the Saginaw Bay, beautiful trails are available for walking, hiking, biking, and running. Public boat ramps, marinas, fishing boat and kayak rentals are available. Free concerts are offered each Tuesday through the summer at the Pinconning Bandshell. The Pinconning Cheese Festival is held in June, the Linwood Pickle Festival is held in August, and a number of walleye tournaments are held throughout the year. The Saginaw Bay Nature Festival is held during the early spring. The Saganing Eagles Landing Casino is located just 10 minutes from Pinconning. Two beautiful golf courses, Green Hills and Maple Leaf, offer great golfing. Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College are within the county and offer continuing education. The Bay County Pinconning Park is located on the Saginaw Bay and the Pinconning River.

Cultural Activities





Tuesdays in the Park: free summer concert series held at the Pinconning Bandshell. Saginaw Bay Nature Festival: lectures on a variety of nature topics, birding tours, art class, student art contest, nature tours. The Bay County Library system has a beautiful branch located in downtown Pinconning.

Public transportation




We are a rural area, but the bus lines run daily from Bay City, MI. Taxi service and Dial-A-Ride is also available from Bay City. The Midland-Bay-Saginaw (MBS) airport is about 30 minutes away and major rental car companies are located there.

Medical Facilities


McLaren Bay Region hospital is located in Bay City (about 20 minutes away), Saginaw VA hospital is located in Saginaw (about 30 minutes away, St. Mary's of Michigan is located in Standish (about 10 minutes away). There is a choice of doctor, labs, pharmacy, etc. in Pinconning. Also veterinary services.


What Will The Climate And Weather Be Like If I Retire In Northern Bay County, Michigan?

For those of you that retire in Northern Bay County, you will enjoy warm summers, a cool fall, a cold winter and a temperate spring!

Winter temperatures are cold with averages in the low 20's and highs in the low 30's. Nights are cold with lows in the mid 10's. You may have a few days below 0°. Expect some rainy days in the winter. Assume some snowy days in the Winter with a lot of days with snow remaining on the ground.

If the weather in the spring is too cold for the outdoors, enjoy some indoor activities in Northern Bay County such as dining, nightlife or some shopping. Spring temperatures are cold with averages in the mid 40's and highs in the mid 50's. Nights are cold with lows in the low 30's. Expect some rainy days in the spring.

Summertime in Northern Bay County is a great time to enjoy your retirement with a day at the lake, an outdoor concert, a local festival or other outdoor activity! Summer temperatures are mild with averages in the upper 60's and highs in the low 80's. Nights are cool with lows in the mid 50's. Humidity may feel "sticky" with muggy evenings. Expect some rainy days in the summer.

If you retire in Northern Bay County, you can look forward to fall weather activities such as biking on a bike path, hiking, enjoying a walking path and more!
